Saint Basil’s Cathedral is a famous and colourful landmark in Russia. It has nine domes that are brightly painted and have lots of fancy designs. You can see it from the Red Square in Moscow.
The cathedral was built from 1555 to 1561 by a ruler named Ivan the Terrible. He wanted to celebrate winning a big battle against the Kazan people. There’s a story that says after the cathedral was completed, Ivan was so impressed that he blinded the builder. He didn’t want anyone else to make another beautiful building like it again.
