Borobudur is a really old Buddhist temple that was built a long time ago, between the eighth and ninth centuries. It’s super special because it has 2,672 pictures carved into the walls that show the life of Buddha and his teachings. There are also 504 statues of Buddha made from stone!
What’s really amazing is that the builders didn’t use cement or mortar to hold everything together – they just fit all the stone pieces together like a giant puzzle. After being left empty for many years, around the 15th century, a volcano erupted nearby and covered Borobudur in ash. It stayed hidden until 1815 when people rediscovered it buried under the ash. In the 1960s, they worked really hard to fix it up and make it look beautiful again for people to visit and learn about its history.
