Harshi

Hi, I am Harshi, originally I am from Sri Lanka and now based in Manchester. At the moment I am working as a University Lecturer in construction whilst studying for a PhD.
When I was a young girl, I really loved science and maths, and was always curious to learn something new. I found the construction industry fascinating. So I went to university to study Quantity Surveying. After my studies and working in industry I became a lecturer because I am passionate about sharing my knowledge.

Ify

Hello, my name is Ify. My interest in science, maths, and the workings of machines when I was much younger, led me to study electrical and electronics engineering at University. But I also enjoyed working with teams of people in brainstorming and finding solutions to problems in our environment. So, I went on to study Project Management and I have since built a career managing different types of engineering projects and solving problems that relate to helping people have better access to places either by road, rail or air!'

Jennifer

My name is Jennifer, and I’m a Building Surveyor. If you’re wondering what a building surveyor is, then imagine that you’re a detective, but instead of solving mysteries with clues, you’re solving puzzles about buildings! As a Building Surveyor, I make sure that all sorts of buildings—like schools, houses, and even castles—are safe, strong, and in good shape. I get to explore buildings, climb up ladders to inspect rooftops, and even use special tools that help me see inside walls. It's a bit like being a superhero who protects people by making sure the places where they live, learn, and play are safe.

If you love buildings, solving problems, exploring and helping people, then maybe you’re a future Building Surveyor! Remember, every time you walk into a building, someone like me has helped make it safe, comfortable, and amazing. One day, that someone could be you!

Saheed

Hello, my name is Saheed. My curiosity about buildings and road construction while growing up made me develop an interest in studying civil engineering! It takes me all over the world which is really exciting! I am currently researching how you can make concrete platforms float in the sea.

I have been working with banks, the UK government and houses for nearly 20 years! I currently work for the Greater London Authority working with lots of people and organisations across London including builders, engineers and architects so that houses are as low-cost as possible.

Peter

Hello, my name is Peter and I help lead a building safety team for one of the largest social housing landlords in the UK. We work with others to keep people safe in their homes- the most basic of rights.

The team is made up of lots of different people with lots of different experiences and backgrounds, but we all bring something to the team and are better at solving problems and stronger because of our differences.

Recently I have completed a number of qualifications in fire engineering, and the built environment, but I wish I had thought about an engineering degree or apprenticeship at school, as I always loved building things and making things better. I’ve loved delivering Eerie Engineering sessions and seeing such engagement from the worlds future engineers!
